Sustainability

As I study and think more about urban planning for sustainability, I am beginning to realize the great importance this topic has in all our lives. As great innovators, we have exceptional control over what our built environment becomes. Furthermore, the way we build has significant effects on where we ultimately come from - Nature. Every thing we do, all actions whether economic, social, or personal cannot and do not happen without Nature. Our bodies are 70-90% water, our brain is mostly water, truly we are intimately connected with the Earth.

Current trends neglect this connection. Our society goes on with a "business as usually" mentality. Which means a nasty cycle of work-buy-throw away, work-buy-throw away. The growth in the stocks of resources generously provided by Nature cannot replenish at the rates we harvest them. Environmental degradation as a result of human activity is undeniable. Because of our attachment and dependence on Nature, it is imperative to our health that we be conscious of the effects our actions have on Nature. We must accept 100% responsibility for what we do. We must stop be viral parasites and live in symbiosis with the Earth. We only have one Earth. We have only one body. Let us treat both with the respect they deserve. Incorporate sustainable practices within your lifestyles and begin to change the trends. Create a healthy environment for yourself and your offspring to prosper.

Introduction to Movement Naturel - "MovNat"

The MovNat lifestyle comes highly recommend by our authors on this blog. It is a large part of the foundation we set for living healthfully and naturally. It focuses on reconnecting with out instinctual and primal ways of moving including walking, running, jumping, swimming, climbing, throwing, catching, lifting, balancing, carrying and defending. Connection with out natural environment also is an integral part of this way of life.

Check out the founder's website (Erwin LeCorre) and some of his videos on there:

Now we do not have to move back to nature, stop saving, and gear up in your loin cloth, though we may learn a thing or two about what's really deep down inside of us. We do, however, need to realize that humans have been domesticated so to speak. Erwin LeCore has coined the modern man - "homo-economus" - a "zoo human". Our built envrionment, the urban cities we live in, make life super easy for us. Now in some ways that's a good thing, we have more leisure time which can be spent with family or on higher education. But many recent trends have led humans to the sedentary lives we live today. MovNat seeks to "reawaken" the true human in us and to reconnect us with our natural roots.

Be strong; be healthy, to be useful my friends!
